Judge Lee Grochmal Announces Candidacy
For Whatcom County Superior Court, Position 3

Judge Lee Grochmal made it official today—she will seek confirmation of her recently-appointed Superior Court post in this year’s local election. In March, Judge Grochmal took the oath of office at the Whatcom County courthouse surrounded by friends, family, and local business and community leaders, followed by a community reception at the Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher.

When she was first appointed, Judge Grochmal told the Governor, “I hope to be able to provide fairness and respect to everyone who appears in the courtroom — litigants, lawyers and staff — and to provide well-reasoned decisions on every case.” Since taking the bench, Judge Grochmal has collaborated with other judicial officers on a myriad of issues before the court, noting, “My colleagues are very receptive to new ideas. We are all looking for ways to make the courts as accessible and understandable to our citizens as possible.”

Judge Grochmal, who has been a serving attorney for 25 years, brings varied experience to the courtroom – from practicing in the Public Defender’s Office to running her own law firm with her husband, Tom Fryer. In addition, she has been active in the community, regularly speaking to students at Meridian High School, teaching financial literacy at WorkSource, and providing free legal services through Law Advocates.
